The Flip Side Of A Coin

I work up, and to my surprise, that which we heard and see through the media happening on other continents was now with us. I remember debating whether this could reach us or even infect us. “We are immune, are we? Tutafanyaje? How are things going to be?” These were conversations emanating from women vegetable vendors. Loneliness was crippling and a prevalent atmosphere of fear was being felt by all.

People in small groups were whispering to one another. “We are waiting to be given directives by the government,” someone shouted. Conversations took the nature of blame games, pointing of fingers and criticism. A famous writer wrote, “Life is a test, life is a trust, and life is a temporary assignment.” In this definition of test, trust and temporary assignment, where do we fall currently?  I scratched my head; you might have thought it was invaded by head lice. I took a deep breath and walked head down while my shadow was my companion.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Is life not a trust? Is God not giving us a way out so that we can stand up under it? Yes, it’s confirmed that Corona Virus, famously known has COVID – 19, is here with us. Are we going to walk in the counsel of the wicked and sit in the seat of mockers? What are we going to do?

“We are being deprived of our rights!” This were acclamation in my neighborhood. The government has directed that we were going to have curfews and lockdowns until further notice. When we felt we were pushed against the wall some goodies came in handy: my Member of Parliament and my Honorable Governor blessed us with a huge fresh water tank which is refilled the moment it runs out. Now everyone is filled with joy as they consume free water. And not only water, but also household shopping. Others have received electronic money transfer from the government. If it was not COVID-19 could we have benefited from this?

We happily gave thanks to God when we found ourselves saving money which we used to carter for other expenses. Are we not being reminded that we should be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus?

One Rev. George Mamboleo, whom I got to listen to when he was sharing on transition in a webinar session, said, “It’s a matter of making adjustments; we can’t live without transition and we can’t grow without transition.” He made reference from the book of Joshua Chapter one.
